Dental Hygiene

The maintenance of a good oral hygiene is the first form of prevention of oral pathologies.

Oral hygiene performed by qualified professionals in a dental practice (hygienists with university degree), has the objective of motivating and instructing patients about oral hygiene maintenance and of removing local irritating factors (plaque and calculus) from the oral cavity.

Oral hygiene at home is the set of procedures aimed at disgregating the plaque on a daily basis. This is an important way to reduce or eliminate the capability on the part of bacteria to start and keep up a gingival inflammation.

All candidates for dental treatments (of any type) must be motivated to hygiene maintenance and must be included in a programme of professionally performed oral hygiene, at regular intervals.

It is very important for the clinician to work on healthy, non inflamed gums and mucosae.
